Ben's birthday gift to me was getaway to the desert! It was hands down the best trip we’ve ever been on together- and probably my favorite trip of all time. We stayed in a restored 1950’s homestead near Pioneertown, and everything was perfect. Our cabin had miles of desert views and privacy, and was so charming and rustic. Since its removed a bit from Joshua Tree and the Yucca Valley, we got to feel like we were in the wild: all the stars, wild rabbits, lizards, birds and bats one could hope for. I didn’t take too many photos of the inside because there was so much to photograph outside, but you can see (and book) the place here. (10/10 would recommend!)
History Lesson: Pioneer town was actually built in the 40’s by Hollywood Investors as a movie set, and over fifty movies and shows were filmed there in the 1940’s and 50’s. How rad is that? It seems perfectly preserved, and felt totally surreal to walk through.
We initially had no idea what Pioneertown was-we just fell in love with the Airbnb, and I’m so glad we did. The night we arrived we headed to Pappy + Harriets for live music, veggie food, NA beer and country dancing. We tried to walk through Pioneertown at night but it was pitch black and spooky, so naturally I chickened out and ran back to the car.
We stayed up all night photographing the stars (photos to come) and spent all morning with Bob Dylan, Cat Stevens, and all the old classics on the record player. The next day we explored Pioneertown on our way to Joshua Tree National Park. It was quaint, wild, and friendly just as we had hoped.
Pioneer town was so fun, and I'm beyond grateful to have had a birthday weekend here. There are so many photos from Joshua Tree to sort, so a few posts of those photos will be coming soon!
